Scales

The scales on a guitar are very important.. the scales on any instrument is very important. it allows you to know and understand what notes to play and how to play them. there are many different scales when it comes to the guitar and all of them have certain ways to play them. but all they are doing is showing you a ‘key’ to play in. and when i say KEY i don’t mean one that can open a door i mean something like the ‘Key of C’ which contains every note without any sharps or flats. So all a scale is doing is telling you what note or key to play in.

Writing music

To write music you really need to understand the scales of a guitar or the theory behind it. And you must understand that a scale is a whole step, whole step, half step, whole step, whole step, whole step, half step. And remember that a ‘fret’ on the guitar is a half step so in order to go a ‘whole step’ you need to most up 2 frets. With that methed of the whole whole half whole whole whole half you’ll be able to figure out ANY scale that you want to! If you have any questions please ask me, I would love to help!

Hammer On’s

Have you ever seen someone on an electric guitar just rip it up in a solo? Something cool to do, and a lot of rock and metal bands do this, it’s called Hammer On’s. And what that is, is while you are playing a solo you take, in this case i’ll use to pointer finger. You take your point finger and put it on the 12th fret(or any) then pluck that string and take your ring fingure or any of your other fingers and SLAM it on to either to the 14th fret or 15th or whatever fret you want.. either way it will sound RAD! I like to use something like that when i do a solo and i take my pointer finger and put it on the 12th fret, and pluck the string and hammer on to the 13th fret the pull off the 13th fret and make sure when you pull of it ‘pops’ the string so it is like you plucked it with your pick. after you do that take your finger (which ever you use to hammer on) and put it to the string above it in the 13th fret and then pluck it with your pick. Using that will for sure improve your soloing! Now, you on one step closer to being a rad solo player!

Importance of Chords

The reason we use chords are so we can figure out what notes to play, after all a C chord is just 3 notes (C, E, G). It has then repeat twice and octive above. So, chords are not cheating but rather taking the simpler way to find out other notes you can play. That way you can do some crazy picking and lead solo’s.

Chords for guitar. The chords for a guitar if you want to play a song all it consist of are notes. all one chord is, is normally three notes. that will be for your basic C,D,E,F,G,A and B chords. you can get into chords for the guitar such as Dm or a E2, or crazier like Amaj7 or Gsus4. those all have more than three notes to them but that are very easy to figure or you just need to understand what notes the chord is and then you put your fingers on thoughs notes on the guitar thus making your chords!

There are many different kinda or guitar whether it is electric, acoustic, bass etc. same with amps or peddles. i’ve already talked a little bit about amps but here is something new… “peddles.” peddles are something that you would use for your electric guitar, it will allow you to get new sounds and effects with it. If you already have a peddle you will know what i mean, but for those who only have an electric guitar and no peddles. i highly recommend buying a peddle or tons of peddles… the more peddles you have the cooler and crazier sounds you can get. peddles price from either $20 to $200 but you can get some nice cheap ones at local guitar shops for like 40 bucks! If you are just getting sick of playing the old stuff (although it is awesome) try getting a peddle and watch your talent just take off!!!

There are also something called a “bass” which is a lot like an electric guitarbut it only has four strings and plays a lot lower notes. Unlike an electric guitar because that plays chords, a bass plays notes. Without a bass in a band it wont have that fullness sounding. they are very rad for thrashing on, and look sweet with there long necks! they also have a lot thicker strings than which makes it harder to push down but your fingers wont have the dead stin on the end of your fingers. hope that helps!

How does an electric guitar make noise? Well an electric guitar has something called “pick-ups” or if two pick-ups are together we call them “humbuckers.” These humbuckers are small magnets that pick up the strings vibrations. When you strum the strings on an electric guitar the strings move back and forth really fast making vibrations. then the humbuckers or pick-ups, which ever one you have, will pick up the vibrations and send them intro your cable sending it to the amp and then amplifing it (hence the word “amp”). Now you should understand how the electric guitar makes its noise! feel free to rock out with it!!!

The difference between electric and acoustic: an electrac guitar is a lot like an acoustic only you need an amp to get the noise out of the guitar where as an acoustic you just need the hole in the middle of the guitar which then when you strum the strings it sends the noise waves into the hole bouncing of the walls in the guitar and making it louder and louder. a electric guitar you just need the amp to creat the niose for you. you are able to get a little niose off the electric without the amp but if you really want to sound rad you need the nice big amp.

Guitar, a guitar is made out of three things. a head, a neck(or bridge), and a body. When you string a guitar together the strings go from the head of the guitar, down to the body crossing over the neck. When you string your guitar together you will start at the body and place the ends of the strings in the holes where they fit in. ordering the strings from the high E string to be the closest one to the ground, then going to the B string which will be the second closest and than G string, D string, A string and the low E string. Than you will bring them up to the head (across the neck) and place them through the tuners. The tuners should be metal nobs that you can swist and tighten the strings. After you tune up your guitar you are ready to play!
